Your route

Day by day

A city written across the valley

Medellín

Day 1: Arrival in Medellín

Arrive in Medellín, set into the Aburrá Valley and ringed by green mountains on every side. A private transfer brings you to your hotel, and the first evening is free: settle in, take in the view across the valley, and get an early sense of the city's rhythm before the days ahead.

Day 2: Medellín past & present

Spend the day with a local guide exploring how Medellín rebuilt itself: the cable cars and outdoor escalators that connect hillside neighborhoods once cut off from the rest of the city, the public libraries and parks built as part of that same effort, and an honest conversation about how the city has changed since the years it was best known for violence.

Day 3: Markets, makers & a free afternoon

Visit a neighborhood market and a small workshop or gallery with your guide, then keep the rest of the day open. The Jardín Botánico, a museum or two, or simply a long lunch somewhere good are all reasonable ways to spend the afternoon.

Colorful street art murals and brick houses cover the steep hillside streets of Medellin's Comuna 13 neighborhood.

Reservoirs, painted façades & green hills

Eastern Antioquia

Day 4: East into the mountains

Travel east through Antioquia's green highlands toward Guatapé, a town known for its brightly painted zócalos, the carved and colored panels that run along the base of nearly every building. Spend the afternoon walking the waterfront streets and looking closer at the details on each façade.

Day 5: Water, stone & small-town life

Spend the day around the reservoir with your guide at an actual pace, not the rushed version most people get on a day trip from Medellín. Stop at viewpoints over the flooded valley, and spend time in the small communities along the shore instead of just passing through.

Day 6: Coffee country between towns

Continue south through rural Antioquia with a stop at a working coffee farm, where you'll walk the rows and see how the crop is grown on these particular hillsides. From there, keep heading south toward Jardín, watching the landscape shift as you go.

Aerial view of the turquoise waters and forested peninsulas of the Guatape reservoir in Antioquia, Colombia.

Balconies, birds & coffee slopes

Jardín

Day 7: Jardín on foot

Explore Jardín on foot with a local guide: the central plaza, the bright balconies lining the streets around it, and the willys, Jardín's old Jeeps still used as shared taxis, parked in rows off the square. Leave plenty of time for a café table and people-watching.

Day 8: The hills beyond town

Head into the hills above Jardín for a guided walk through coffee farms and the forest edges around them. This is one of the best areas in Colombia for spotting Andean birdlife, including the endangered yellow-eared parrot, so keep your eyes up. Head back into town before evening.

Day 9: Departure

Travel back toward Medellín for your onward flight, with one more look at the green hills you've spent the past few days moving through.
